About the piece

The Ruana Cuzco brings together two textile languages central to La Troupe: the Argentine heritage of the ruana and Mexican artisanal work applied to a woven 100% cotton manta. Its open, enveloping construction lets the fabric fall around the body without imposing a rigid shape, allowing the piece to adapt naturally to different layers and silhouettes.

The entire perimeter is finished with a hand-embroidered cross-stitch border. At the back, a second embroidery in neutral tones concentrates visual detail and gives the piece a different reading from the front and when the wearer turns. The cross-stitch rises above the cotton surface, creating relief and perceptible texture over the woven base.

This version also incorporates delicate tonal leather edging and a small frayed finish. The combination of woven cotton, embroidered thread, leather and loose fibers creates a layered material experience: a flexible base, raised embroidery, a firmer edge and a freer textured finish.

It is one size (UT) and currently offered in Ivory, Cemento and Negro. It can be worn over other garments as a light outer layer or directly against the skin on a cool evening, taking advantage of its open construction and enveloping drape.

Hand-embroidered in Mexico by Mayan communities using traditional techniques. Because of the artisanal process, slight differences in embroidery, texture or color may appear from one piece to another.
